Monday, October 2, 2017 - It's Deer Season!

Hey y'all!! How is it going?! So I decided to start sending out a big email to everyone so that way those who don't know the blog my mom makes for me can still keep up with how I am doing! This week was awesome!! Deer season opened up on Wednesday! Everyone, and I mean everyone has been making plans to go hunt some deer. The weird part is, around Sunday of last week, all the deer started coming down into the towns! And I mean there are tons of deer!! We must have seen about 50 just driving around in one day! I feel like they know that it is hunting season and are coming here to get shot. I don't know, might just be me. I absolutely loved conference!! My favorite session has to be the Sunday afternoon session. And my favorite talk has to be that of Elder Tad R. Callister on Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon. It really is amazing how he was able to translate the Book of Mormon in about 65 work days. And it was his FIRST DRAFT!! Unbelievable. I also loved Elder Anderson's talk and especially when he said "You don't know everything, but you know enough." That is so true, especially in missionary work. We don't know everything, but we can always go back to our testimony. A lot of times as missionaries we don't have the answers to other people's questions, and I mean, we are only about 18-25 years old! But what we do know about the Restored Gospel is what is really important. So y'all are probably wondering if we have had a baptism anytime soon. Well, let me tell ya. We were supposed to have one this past weekend. The name of young man who was supposed to get baptized is Felix, and his is 18 years old. Well, we received a call from him on Friday night at about 22:10 saying that he was in the hospital! That was all we found out that evening because he had people coming to visit him. We knew that he went longboarding that evening though because he told us earlier when we had a lesson with him. The next morning he called us and told us what happened. He was going down a road on a hill about 40 miles per hour when he hit a pot hole and flew off his longboard. The down side: he couldn't do the baptism, has a horrible black eye and VERY deep gash in his left knee all the way to the bone. The upside: he has NO broken bones!! Now THAT was a miracle. We gave him a blessing Saturday afternoon in between the morning and afternoon sessions of conference. Let me tell you more about his eye. It is very purple and he couldn't see anything. You remember the old Rocky movie when Rocky's eye was SUPER swollen? It was worse than that. But, when we came back Sunday evening, the swelling in his eye had decreased a TON. See pictures below. All in all, he is doing awesome right now, plans to start working again tomorrow, and has his baptism rescheduled for this coming Saturday!! So we will see how that goes!! Love y'all!! This week has gone pretty awesome! Taught my first actual lesson with a golden investigator, who we hope to baptize in 2 weeks! (He is in the plaid shirt in the photo) I also had my first baptism yesterday! It was amazing!  I am taking it easy, well trying to, we walk to the chapel to do splits and everytime I feel like I trip and hurt my ankle a little more, but I can feel it getting better. However, I am not taking ibuprofen...está bien! It doesn't hurt that much!  The church is in a circular form. We live about 5 minutes North East of the church, down a street called Juy Juy.  Honestly, I think Tuxtla is larger than Tucson! It is huge! And we are surrounded by mountains, if you think Tucson is surrounded, think again! I legit feel like we are in a bowl! It is green everywere! And even though we are finishing up mango season, we are still eating mangos everyday! It is really weird slurping a super juicy mango out of a hole! This is how we eat mangoes: ...

P-Day is Thursday this week because we are going to the temple that day, so P-Day was moved. Wow! This week was insane!! This will probably be my biggest email ever. As you all already know, we had transfers and we knew I was leaving but didn't know where. Monday night we found out I will be going to the Murray 2nd Ward! And my new companion will be Élder Solis! He was born and raised in Miami Florida, but his parents are from Guatemala. His first language is Spanish, and he just finished his training before I came so he has about 3 and a half months in the mission. He is awesome, loves swimming and volleyball, plus he is also a professional dancer. There are also sisters in the ward now as well because the area is huge. What stinks is that they are on bikes and we are in a car because of my ankle. I would love to drive them places if I could, but I can't. They are awesome though! Their names are Hermana Oteo who is from San Diego, but her parents are from Mexico. She ...
