Monday, January 15, 2018 - "Did you speak Japanese in Mexico?"

Hello everyone how is it going?!!

Things are just doing amazing up here in Coalville!! We had dinner with a part-member family that we have been teaching for a little bit and they are super awesome!! They made us chicken Alfredo which was really good. And we were able to get to know them a lot more. We planned on eating with them for Christmas day but the dad got caught up in Evanston. So we decided to do it this passed Wednesday evening.

We picked up a super awesome new investigator!! He lives down in Kamas, so he is a Spanish investigator. He wants us to come back whenever we would like to, and is just a super nice guy. He had some problems just prior to us meeting with him, we only know that because his supervisor told us who lives in Henefer. Elder Trincado has actually taught him when he was in Kamas when he first arrived to this mission, and he actually had a baptismal date set but didn't go through with it for some reason.

We got to watch the funeral for President Monson. It was very well put together. We only got to watch the actual funeral itself and not the stuff that happened before and afterwards. Very neat experiences and stories we shared during the time. The music was absolutely stellar as well. But the part that I liked was that two of his apostles gave the opening and closing prayers. We normally don't see them giving the prayers during General Conference because they are normally speaking, so they ask other General Authorities to say them. So it was a special treat to hear them pray.

Okay, so, the title of this week happened last night. We were having dinner with a family, and they had other family and friends over as well. Well, we were just talking at the dinner table, and all of them knew that I had started in Mexico because we had eaten dinner with them prior to last night. And for some reason, I don't remember how this topic was brought up, but we started talking about our name tags, and we got asked how many we had. They didn't know we were allowed to have more than just what the MTC gave us, because their kids who are also serving aren't allowed to do so. I told them I have 6, 4 Spanish, 1 English, and 1 Japanese tag. And the mom, bless her heart, she asked, "Oh, did you speak Japanese in Mexico?" Everyone was laughing. I felt kind of bad for her so I just explained that no, I didn't, I started off in the Japanese ward in Salt Lake when I first got to this mission. It was pretty funny though.

Alright, here is the miracle of the week!! Azure, one of the people we are teaching in Henefer, is on date for baptism on the 27th of January!! My companion and I had been thinking about February 10th as a date, but during the lesson, the 27th came to mind and we went with it and it worked out!! She is super awesome. She grew up in Southern Idaho, but the church had a very bad influence on her while she was there. So when she got older and moved out, she moved to Utah, and then eventually to Henefer, and she felt the push to go to church from the Spirit. She had never felt a push to go to church, except from her mother, ever in her life. And she has very bad social anxiety. She told us that whenever she goes to church, that anxiety goes away. It was a true miracle, and we are just super excited for her!!

This week has gone pretty awesome! Taught my first actual lesson with a golden investigator, who we hope to baptize in 2 weeks! (He is in the plaid shirt in the photo) I also had my first baptism yesterday! It was amazing!  I am taking it easy, well trying to, we walk to the chapel to do splits and everytime I feel like I trip and hurt my ankle a little more, but I can feel it getting better. However, I am not taking ibuprofen...está bien! It doesn't hurt that much!  The church is in a circular form. We live about 5 minutes North East of the church, down a street called Juy Juy.  Honestly, I think Tuxtla is larger than Tucson! It is huge! And we are surrounded by mountains, if you think Tucson is surrounded, think again! I legit feel like we are in a bowl! It is green everywere! And even though we are finishing up mango season, we are still eating mangos everyday! It is really weird slurping a super juicy mango out of a hole! This is how we eat mangoes: ...

P-Day is Thursday this week because we are going to the temple that day, so P-Day was moved. Wow! This week was insane!! This will probably be my biggest email ever. As you all already know, we had transfers and we knew I was leaving but didn't know where. Monday night we found out I will be going to the Murray 2nd Ward! And my new companion will be Élder Solis! He was born and raised in Miami Florida, but his parents are from Guatemala. His first language is Spanish, and he just finished his training before I came so he has about 3 and a half months in the mission. He is awesome, loves swimming and volleyball, plus he is also a professional dancer. There are also sisters in the ward now as well because the area is huge. What stinks is that they are on bikes and we are in a car because of my ankle. I would love to drive them places if I could, but I can't. They are awesome though! Their names are Hermana Oteo who is from San Diego, but her parents are from Mexico. She ...
