Monday, November 27, 2017 - Escape Room!

This was a pretty good week. On Monday we went to the Olympic Park Museum and went to go see all the different sights there. They have a virtual ski jump that you can play! It was super cool to watch other people play it (it costs money to go on lol). They have different gear and clothes from different countries from the Winter Olympic games in 1998. They had some medals there as well, it was super cool to see. We also had a lesson with Sam that evening. It was at a member's house. We taught him part of the Plan of Salvation before, so we just finished that lesson. He is doing amazing.

On Tuesday we taught him again. His main concern was that he wasn't going to be able to learn everything that he needs to before he gets baptized. So we went over the baptismal interview questions with him to show him where he stands and how close he is. He even knew what tithing and fast offerings were right off the bat!! Also, we think he said he already paid tithing once before. Anyways, when we were pulling up to our house to go in that evening, there was a skunk sitting on our porch. A skunk! This guy was huge! I wish I could've gotten a good picture to show y'all how big he was but it was just too dang dark outside. He was just roaming around our front porch for about 6-8 minutes before he finally ran away and we could go inside. Needless to say, we were pretty hesitant to walk out the next morning in case he was right there waiting for us lol.

On Wednesday we had a lesson with the Grant family. Last week, when we were teaching them about the Book of Mormon, we taught them a little bit from the Preach My Gospel. In Chapter 5 it has a section labeled, "The Book of Mormon Answers Questions of the Soul". When Sister Grant read the one about "Does God answer prayers?" she was like "Oh! I need to read that one!" Turns out, she already had the whole chapter marked. So we went over the chapter with them about the story of Enos and how he had his prayers answered to show that God really does answer prayers.

Thursday, Thanksgiving Day, was a blast. Brother Greenwood from Henefer invited us to his wife's family get-together at the middle school. It was pretty fun, we had some turkey and ham, played a little bit of horse on the basketball court, and then played an incredibly awesome game Bro Greenwood came up with. It has to do with the one game on phones called Escape Room. Basically, in his version, he had a box that had 3 different locks on it. Our job was to search for clues to get the combination to each lock so we could open it up!! It took us about 30 minutes to do!! It was a ton of fun.

On Friday, we went to Park City so Elder Trincado could give a baptismal interview to someone that one of the companionships of sisters are teaching. It went pretty quick, and she passed without any problems so it went really well. Anyways, while we were at the family history center in Park City (which is where the interview was held) I found out that I am a first cousin eleven times removed to none other than Benjamin Franklin!! That was pretty cool to see.

On Saturday we had a service opportunity. Our mission: build a chicken coop. Well, about a week and a half prior, we called the ward's Elder's Quorum President to see if he can have some guys come help us. By the time we started, it was us, the Elder's Quorum President, an investigator (their next door neighbor who supplied everything), and the recent converts who were the ones who needed the help. No one else from the ward came! It was pretty fun though, We started at 1 PM and we had to leave at 430 PM so we could make it on time to dinner. We didn't quite finish it yet, see pictures below.

On Sunday, the Flores family down in Kamas came to church!! We were super happy when we received the news. Also, Sam, and another person, Balto, came to church up in Henefer!! We were pretty happy on Sunday. And then to top off the week, this morning had an amazing sunrise! I even looked down at my clothes and it was radiating with the warm orange color. Super beautiful.

This week has gone pretty awesome! Taught my first actual lesson with a golden investigator, who we hope to baptize in 2 weeks! (He is in the plaid shirt in the photo) I also had my first baptism yesterday! It was amazing!  I am taking it easy, well trying to, we walk to the chapel to do splits and everytime I feel like I trip and hurt my ankle a little more, but I can feel it getting better. However, I am not taking ibuprofen...está bien! It doesn't hurt that much!  The church is in a circular form. We live about 5 minutes North East of the church, down a street called Juy Juy.  Honestly, I think Tuxtla is larger than Tucson! It is huge! And we are surrounded by mountains, if you think Tucson is surrounded, think again! I legit feel like we are in a bowl! It is green everywere! And even though we are finishing up mango season, we are still eating mangos everyday! It is really weird slurping a super juicy mango out of a hole! This is how we eat mangoes: ...

P-Day is Thursday this week because we are going to the temple that day, so P-Day was moved. Wow! This week was insane!! This will probably be my biggest email ever. As you all already know, we had transfers and we knew I was leaving but didn't know where. Monday night we found out I will be going to the Murray 2nd Ward! And my new companion will be Élder Solis! He was born and raised in Miami Florida, but his parents are from Guatemala. His first language is Spanish, and he just finished his training before I came so he has about 3 and a half months in the mission. He is awesome, loves swimming and volleyball, plus he is also a professional dancer. There are also sisters in the ward now as well because the area is huge. What stinks is that they are on bikes and we are in a car because of my ankle. I would love to drive them places if I could, but I can't. They are awesome though! Their names are Hermana Oteo who is from San Diego, but her parents are from Mexico. She ...
