Wow! This week was crazy! So on Monday night, the night before I leave Murray, we get a call from our zone leaders. This is what normally happens when you are leaving an area, your zone leaders call you the night before you leave to tell you where to go. And they did, sort of. They first asked us if President Hillier had called us yet, and I kinda looked at my companion like "What?". Normally that means that you are training, or are getting called into leadership/released, or something else happened. So I was super confused. When we told them he didn't call us yet they told me "Oh, well Elder Wilkes, you're staying!" ....WHAT?! I have never seen this happen before! Our members who have served missions and other missionaries in the mission haven't seen this before! It was SUPER weird! I'm definitely not complaining though, I love this ward. But seriously, that almost never happens. I was already packed and ready and waiting on who my companion was going to be...only to find out that I'm staying with Elder Gonzalez again lol. We kinda gave each other hugs and high fives after the call hahaha. I was seriously thinking that night they called that when President and his assistants were figuring out the transfers a few weeks ago, one of them was like, "Hey. Do you know what would be funny? Bear with me for a second, what if we told Elder Wilkes on Saturday that he was leaving, then on Monday be like 'Oh just kidding, we messed up, you're actually staying!'." That's what I was thinking! This is my 3rd transfer with him! Crazy how long it has been.
Anyways, I'm glad that I stayed because we received a referral from some English elders of a youth who apparently didn't have a ton of potential. Once we went to their house, we met a family of 6 who all became new investigators! It was awesome. I've never been able to teach a whole family yet. I think it will be fun! The young woman (the original referral) used to have a baptismal date, but didn't get baptized because she thought it would be dishonorable to her godmother, though the godmother doesn't care if she gets baptized or not.
On Friday we had our zone meeting! We got to meet the 3 new sisters who came into the mission on Tuesday. All 3 of them are gringas! They are super awesome and don't know a whole lot of Spanish lol which is normal. It's awesome seeing the new fresh faces of missionaries coming in to join in the Lord’s work.
On Sunday during the Gospel Principles class we talked about Chapter 34: Developing our Talents. I love the example that is used in that chapter that Moses, although he was a great leader, he wasn't a good public speaker. He even tells the Lord in verse 10 of Exodus Chapter 4 saying "...I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue." The Lord helps him understand that Aaron is a good speaker, and that they can help each other with the talents they have to help the children of Israel. So we can see in this example that by using our talents we are in a way helping others as well. Sometimes we don't often know the talents we have. That is why there are 6 steps to help us understand and develop our talents (it is in the Gospel Principles book chapter 34, under the section "We should use and improve our talents."). That class was a great way to end this week.
Matthew 5:16 - Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
