Elder Wilkes in the Conference Center

Hello everyone!

This week was super good! We received about 8 referrals!! It was awesome. We plan to contact them and give them the first lesson this week.

Conference was SUPER good!! We were able to watch the Saturday morning session at our church building, have lunch at a member's house, and then head to the tracks for conference! Elder Solis and I were able to go to the Saturday Afternoon and General Priesthood sessions. Both were outstanding. My favorite talks in both sessions were the talks by Gary B. Sabin in the Saturday Afternoon Session, and the talk by David A. Bednar in the General Priesthood Session. My favorite quote during the conference weekend is, "Christ's perfect love gives us the confidence to press through our fears." by Dieter F. Uchtdorf

Companionship smiles!

So, before the closing prayer and during the last song, my comp and I went up to the top so we could leave right after the prayer and not get caught in the huge crowd. While we were standing up there, during the closing prayer, the church photographer came over to take a picture of us standing together during the prayer!! When we left my comp and I looked at each other, smiled, and said, "We are going to be in the Ensign!!" Haha, we don't know if that will actually happen, but look for us just in case.

On Sunday for the morning session, we were walking to go watch conference at our church building, and then a church member we didn't know pulled over and offered for us to go watch it at his house! It was awesome. They made us breakfast (eggs and waffles with some amazing boysenberry syrup) and then we watched conference! It was super cool. His wife is actually a member of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir!! We saw her a few times.

(From Aubry: This sweet Brother saw Elder Wilkes and his companion walking Sunday morning and picked them up and brought them home for breakfast and to watch the Sunday morning session of General Conference. And then he took pictures and texted them to us! My favorite!)

After that session, we went to another member's house, this time in our ward, because she has one of our investigators named L living with her. He is her nephew. They fed us lunch and we watched the Sunday Afternoon session in Spanish at their house, then they also fed us dinner.

So...transfers....both of us are staying!! We are both literally so happy. As far as other people, 4 greenies who haven't even finished their 12 week training (they are 6 weeks in) are receiving a new companion!! And 3 of them are leaving their areas!! It was crazy.

I love you all! And remember, if you're in a tough spot, just know that Christ will always be there for you!

Doctrine and Covenants 121:7-8 - My son, peace be unto thy soul; thine adversity and thine afflictions shall be but a small moment; And then, if thou endure it well, God shall exalt thee on high; thou shalt triumph over all thy foes.

This week has gone pretty awesome! Taught my first actual lesson with a golden investigator, who we hope to baptize in 2 weeks! (He is in the plaid shirt in the photo) I also had my first baptism yesterday! It was amazing!  I am taking it easy, well trying to, we walk to the chapel to do splits and everytime I feel like I trip and hurt my ankle a little more, but I can feel it getting better. However, I am not taking ibuprofen...está bien! It doesn't hurt that much!  The church is in a circular form. We live about 5 minutes North East of the church, down a street called Juy Juy.  Honestly, I think Tuxtla is larger than Tucson! It is huge! And we are surrounded by mountains, if you think Tucson is surrounded, think again! I legit feel like we are in a bowl! It is green everywere! And even though we are finishing up mango season, we are still eating mangos everyday! It is really weird slurping a super juicy mango out of a hole! This is how we eat mangoes: ...

P-Day is Thursday this week because we are going to the temple that day, so P-Day was moved. Wow! This week was insane!! This will probably be my biggest email ever. As you all already know, we had transfers and we knew I was leaving but didn't know where. Monday night we found out I will be going to the Murray 2nd Ward! And my new companion will be Élder Solis! He was born and raised in Miami Florida, but his parents are from Guatemala. His first language is Spanish, and he just finished his training before I came so he has about 3 and a half months in the mission. He is awesome, loves swimming and volleyball, plus he is also a professional dancer. There are also sisters in the ward now as well because the area is huge. What stinks is that they are on bikes and we are in a car because of my ankle. I would love to drive them places if I could, but I can't. They are awesome though! Their names are Hermana Oteo who is from San Diego, but her parents are from Mexico. She ...
