August 3, 2016

August 1, 2016 - In his weekly email home, Elder Wilkes informed us that he had turned his ankle again and would most likely be coming home to heal.
August 2, 2016 - We received a phone call from his mission president, President George, telling us that Elder Wilkes would indeed need to return home for at least 3 months, or 12 weeks. We were also told that he would need to be able to walk 6 miles a day for three days in a row, without swelling or pain to be able to return to the Tuxtla mission.
August 3, 2016 - We picked up Elder Wilkes from the Tucson airport in the evening and went straight to President Theis's office so he could be released from his calling as a missionary. His smile gave us reassurance that he was accepting of what lay ahead of him in recuperating and that his missionary spirit had not been diminished.

A loving welcome home from furry friend Jaxx.

The tag came off for now. The tie was handmade from a small town near Tuxtla, Mexico.
This was just a pause in Elder Wilkes's missionary service. As he had only served 3 months out of 24, he would still have 21 months upon returning to the mission field.

This week has gone pretty awesome! Taught my first actual lesson with a golden investigator, who we hope to baptize in 2 weeks! (He is in the plaid shirt in the photo) I also had my first baptism yesterday! It was amazing!  I am taking it easy, well trying to, we walk to the chapel to do splits and everytime I feel like I trip and hurt my ankle a little more, but I can feel it getting better. However, I am not taking ibuprofen...está bien! It doesn't hurt that much!  The church is in a circular form. We live about 5 minutes North East of the church, down a street called Juy Juy.  Honestly, I think Tuxtla is larger than Tucson! It is huge! And we are surrounded by mountains, if you think Tucson is surrounded, think again! I legit feel like we are in a bowl! It is green everywere! And even though we are finishing up mango season, we are still eating mangos everyday! It is really weird slurping a super juicy mango out of a hole! This is how we eat mangoes: ...

P-Day is Thursday this week because we are going to the temple that day, so P-Day was moved. Wow! This week was insane!! This will probably be my biggest email ever. As you all already know, we had transfers and we knew I was leaving but didn't know where. Monday night we found out I will be going to the Murray 2nd Ward! And my new companion will be Élder Solis! He was born and raised in Miami Florida, but his parents are from Guatemala. His first language is Spanish, and he just finished his training before I came so he has about 3 and a half months in the mission. He is awesome, loves swimming and volleyball, plus he is also a professional dancer. There are also sisters in the ward now as well because the area is huge. What stinks is that they are on bikes and we are in a car because of my ankle. I would love to drive them places if I could, but I can't. They are awesome though! Their names are Hermana Oteo who is from San Diego, but her parents are from Mexico. She ...
