Leaving the MTC was sad, but I was longing for it! I went with my companion, one Hermana in my district, Élder Tauanuu, 2 other Americans going to Monterey, and 12 latinos going to Tuxtla and Monterey. The flight itself was only 1 hour to 1 hour and 30 minutes! It was really short. The airport down here is probably a third the size of the one in Tucson.

The Mission President met us there with his wife, and the AP's. My Mission President, President George, he is awesome, really tall too. He is really loving. One of my CCM teachers served here, and she emailed him about my ankle. We went to the temple first! It is really small! But it is absolutely beautiful!!

We stayed in the mission office and found out the next day who our companions were! Élder De Jesús! He is awesome!! He is from Estado de México, and speaks pretty well english, not to my advantage as I need to learn Español. But he is awesome! Hard worker, he has 17 months in the mission, and has 20 years. Living conditions are good. We have ants though, but nothing too bad. We have hot water, but I took cold showers in the CCM, so I like them more now. We live in a home, just the two of us. It’s not big, but it’s good. I think I need to spray my bed because I feel I’m getting a bed bug rash.

My ankle is better, I am wearing my boots porque it gives more support to my ankle. But it still hurts. I saw an orthopedic surgeon, and I have to stay off of it for one week , and the next week after that I have to do minimal walking. So, teaching is difficult. We just go on splits, one Hermano stays with me a la capilla y uno con mi compañero. Pero, está bien, puedo empezar caminando este miércoles. There are taxis all over, and this bus called convis, they are way less expensive obviously but take much longer, we only take these right now because of my ankle, when I can walk we will walk.

The food - It is so good! My first meal was hardboiled eggs in a soup that contained beans and barbacoa! Everything here is so good. I have also tried pozol! That is the corn drink, and it is literally so freaking good!!

I am in the Barrio Moctezuma! I love it so much. The members are amazing, the bishop is hilarious, the líder misional is really young! He has 25 years! I had to bear my testimony on Sunday during sacrament meeting, it was fun! I can do my lessons in Psanish without looking at anything. I am also teaching the English class that the Hermanas before us were teaching. It is so much fun here. The weather is a little warm, but apparently we just got out of the hot season, and we are starting to get into the rainy season! No puedo esperar.
I can´t wait to start actually working with the investigators!

Elder Wilkes is serving in the Moctezuma ward.
The meeting house is in the middle of this map, close to the circular, spider-web streets.

I want to challenge you to read the story of Ammon this week with the family, Alma 17-19, está bien? And when you read it look for how we can teach with the power and authority that Ammon had.

Les amo!

This week has gone pretty awesome! Taught my first actual lesson with a golden investigator, who we hope to baptize in 2 weeks! (He is in the plaid shirt in the photo) I also had my first baptism yesterday! It was amazing!  I am taking it easy, well trying to, we walk to the chapel to do splits and everytime I feel like I trip and hurt my ankle a little more, but I can feel it getting better. However, I am not taking ibuprofen...está bien! It doesn't hurt that much!  The church is in a circular form. We live about 5 minutes North East of the church, down a street called Juy Juy.  Honestly, I think Tuxtla is larger than Tucson! It is huge! And we are surrounded by mountains, if you think Tucson is surrounded, think again! I legit feel like we are in a bowl! It is green everywere! And even though we are finishing up mango season, we are still eating mangos everyday! It is really weird slurping a super juicy mango out of a hole! This is how we eat mangoes: ...

P-Day is Thursday this week because we are going to the temple that day, so P-Day was moved. Wow! This week was insane!! This will probably be my biggest email ever. As you all already know, we had transfers and we knew I was leaving but didn't know where. Monday night we found out I will be going to the Murray 2nd Ward! And my new companion will be Élder Solis! He was born and raised in Miami Florida, but his parents are from Guatemala. His first language is Spanish, and he just finished his training before I came so he has about 3 and a half months in the mission. He is awesome, loves swimming and volleyball, plus he is also a professional dancer. There are also sisters in the ward now as well because the area is huge. What stinks is that they are on bikes and we are in a car because of my ankle. I would love to drive them places if I could, but I can't. They are awesome though! Their names are Hermana Oteo who is from San Diego, but her parents are from Mexico. She ...
